IN TH E GARDEN
GARDEN HIGHLIGHTS
Flowering plants, like the
paints, are chosen for their
bright hues, including this
larkspur,
left.
‘Country
Dancer’ rose,
above,
brings
blooms and fragrance
without a lot of work.
The patio,
below,
offers
a panorama of color.
The garden flowers change continuously
through the seasons. The spring palette
features many varieties of iris in “an under-
statement of beautiful blues.” As the season
heats up, so does the palette, moving into
Asiatic lilies in soft yellows, pinks, and peaches.
These are followed by boldly colored daylilies
and fragrant red and pink roses.
While color is top priority, the garden feeds
all of Gwendolyn’s senses. A pond adds the
soothing sounds of water while fragrant
flowers scent the air. “I have all these little
places where I can sit and see the garden from
different perspectives” she says. “I just love
sitting back and taking it all in.”
